Unstick, then ending

Matched by build plan, shared topics, and guide progression — not random related links.

What is the chapter order for one sitting?

Steam does not ship named chapters. The labels below are wiki route names so you can unstick from memory. Times in parentheses are one commentary sitting’s clock, useful as order, not as your speedrun split — your look sensitivity and stalls will differ.

Route beatWhat you should haveSourced cue

2. Renovation tellMental map of thick wall / pulley / cavityWall ~3 ft thick; sledgehammer; pulley to living-room wall; locked old object

6. Cavity boardPainted wood board from table setupWall cavity object of note; dining-room table occult layout
7. Bind kitSecond tape labeled bind, hand-bound booklet, pediment slateSpawn ~32:52 in one play
8. Insert / enter tapeInside the recordingCamera → use → insert tape ~33:05; “I’m in the tape” ~33:23

10. Keys / thresholdBind-key document applied, sitting closedBinding keys / commencement language; “Trinity has been closed”; DreadXP credits

Do not optimize the order

You cannot stash the bind tape in minute two. Objects appear after recordings and pries. If a row in the table has not happened yet, you are not “behind” — you skipped a listen or a resweep. Puzzle-level object list: puzzles.

Spoilers from here

The next sections name victims, detective lines, hide spots, and the end-of-sitting phrases. If you wanted only “is there a save,” go back to At A Glance or the beginner guide.

What happens in the opening house sweep?

The live space is the New England renovation house from the store copy. Launch footage frames a couple who can only afford this place, a kitchen they will not cook in, boxes everywhere, and someone sneaking upstairs. Your job is not to win an argument. Your job is to remember which rooms exist when the archive later lies about them.

Playable Archive opening house tour through kitchen and clutter

Locked doors are scenery until a prompt says otherwise

Audio: “Why is every door in this house locked?” A second voice jokes that every locked room has gold and you should smash it with a crowbar. The reply is not to smash anything — doors cost money. Believe the reply. You will get a crowbar later for a cavity and a compartment, not for a gold farm.

Measure the lie in the wall

A later renovation beat: this room and the living room “don’t add up”; the wall is about three feet thick. They want the wall down for square footage. Someone fetches a sledgehammer. Inside: wood, a box, brick, a pulley attached to something on the living-room wall, and an old locked object they cannot reach. That cavity is the spine of the first half of this walkthrough. If you wander upstairs chasing Jessica/Jess/Jazz voicelines instead of returning to the thick wall, you will feel lost when the detective layer starts.

You are already the reviewer

Steam’s anonymous-whistleblower framing is why the sitting can jump from couple audio to a crime scene without a loading-chapter card. Treat every complete listen as unlocking the next verb. Incomplete listen = missing verb.

When do I get the crowbar and the August 8th tape?

Two different “crowbar” moments exist. Confusing them is how people bash doors for twenty minutes. Two different “August 8th” layers exist too: detective procedure versus the Mini DV in a hand.

BeatClock in one sittingWhat it means
Smash joke~3:57Do not smash; you do not have the tool
Crowbar pickup~13:19Inventory item; electrical weirdness can coincide
Crowbar use tell~14:40Player realizes a pry is coming
Mini DV August 8th~17:53–18:07Label read from the cassette; found in a hand
Jess hideImmediately after that tape’s sceneObject hidden next to the bed
Detective: hidden bedroom compartmentSame archive layerPry target after the hide

Crowbar pickup is in the live house

After you have inventory and have already been through kitchen / pantry / toilet, a pickup reads as a crowbar. Lights may already be lying to you (players argue whether a floor light was always there). Red candles show up in the same stretch. When a cavity or boarded gap refuses a hand interact, use the crowbar — that is the tool’s job.

August 8th is a date stamp, not a code

The cassette label is August 8th. Detective Lamar Robbins, Rochester, New York, file KCR25014, time about 8:00 p.m., takes over after suggesting Detective Dresden return to the station (Dresden had been on a 0400 call; sixteen-hour joke in the partner audio). Scene: female mid-to-late 20s, 4–5 inch laceration across the neck; male mid-to-late 20s, decomposition started; deaths days apart; dining table laid with occult materials, arrangement deliberate. Today’s date. Must be a camera around somewhere to play these. That sentence is the walkthrough’s camera quest-giver. It is not a numeric lock.

The tape tells you to pry the bedroom

Videotape found on the victim suggests a hidden compartment in the bedroom. In the recording, someone asks Jess to lift a heavy object while she stalls: “I need to hide this” / “I’ll hide it” — remembered as next to the bed. After you own the crowbar, that compartment is a pry, not a guess-the-wallpaper puzzle. Wall cavity follow-up: painted wood board, seems taken from the dining-room table setup. Compare table versus cavity; they are one layout split in two.

Where is the camera and how do I enter a tape?

Steam thread “Camera location?” is this beat. You can hold crowbar + Mini DV and still have no playback. The wiki will not invent a dresser name. Sourced facts: the detective says a camera must exist to play the tapes; later you use the camera and insert tape; then you are in the tape.

Playable Archive camera Use then Insert tape into Mini DV

Search like an archivist, not like a speedrunner

Resweep renovation clutter, not only the archive desk. The couple’s boxes and the crime-scene dining table are both valid. If you already pulled the cavity board and the bedroom compartment, the camera is the remaining playback tool in that cluster. Pin still Unverified — updates go on camera.

Insert is a menu verb on the camera

In one sitting, around 32:52, the house yields another tape, a hand-bound booklet, a pediment slate, and a tape labeled bind. The player’s next correct impulse is not to read every page in the dark. It is: Camera → use → insert tape (they pick “this one”). After a pause, the line is “I’m in the tape.” That is the multiple-timelines promise becoming a room. Stay until the recording finishes. Cutting out early is how you miss the reach-out lecture.

What the person in the tape is trying to teach

Inside: “You’re here. I can feel it. You’re going to help me. You save us both. I’ve seen it. I can show you where to start.” Then the rules, quoted as archive instruction rather than wiki invention: This is how you reach out to it. Tracing the symbols will call it to you. Different tracings, markings, and offerings change intent — that is what the pieces are for. Every reach-out strengthens its connection to you. Every demon has keys it is bound to. Keys command it, gain its knowledge, bind it to the threshold. These markings reveal the bind key of the demon that’s here now. When the threshold is built with the correct keys, the demon is tied to it and “this will all be over.” Draw the key and it will obey. Violence rises with every command. “Please, you have to finish it.”

What do the symbols, board, and bind keys ask for?

After the insert, you are hunting symbols the sitting already showed you, not drawing fan glyphs. Steam warned that exposure to symbols was not risk-assessed. In play, the danger is mechanical: each reach-out binds stronger. Do not spam traces to see what happens.

Find, then board

Players stall because they try the board with zero marks. Commentary: “I don’t have any symbols to even draw. We need to find them first.” Bedroom is called out as one location. Dining table / cavity board is another. When the three are in hand (or in view as a set), the board session is the drag: one play describes dragging a piece from one position and it catching. A second board pass happens later in the same sitting (~44:55 “Ouija board time”) — if the house continues, you are not done after the first drag.

Document language you can trust

A compilation titled in play as findings on the lost keys of Rehoboam (named as son of King Solomon) warns: use extreme caution; invoking the symbols within will place you in great danger. Further read-aloud: Binding keys of commencement — all demons must obey keys of bindings; a demon must first be bound to service with one of the six commencement keys; binding of the hand is named. Trace the figure of inquiry and the spirit shall declare its order; such requests are “best performed upon the days of Archangel Haniel” in the document’s own wording. Geodetic geometry appears as a garbled/read-aloud phrase — treat spelling as Unverified if the on-screen text differs.

Commentary guessed a first mark as an “upside-down pie.” That is a player shape nickname, not an official glyph. This walkthrough will not turn it into a proper name. Catalog page: symbols. Ritual framing: rituals.

Salt is salt

At least one false positive in a sitting was a salt pile, not a symbol. If it looks like a kitchen spill, it probably is. The archive is already dense; do not add a rune set the game did not give you.

How does the sitting actually end?

Full ending interpretation (timelines, who “us both” is, how many endings exist) belongs on ending. This section only lists route-complete tells so you know the sitting closed versus a fake-out black screen.

Lines that mean you crossed the last door

After the symbols are applied, audio in sourced plays includes screaming, then “We’re together now.” A follow-up line is heard as “Trinity has been closed” (one automatic caption set “Wasn’t she has been closed” — prefer the clearer pass: Trinity). Later threshold-adjacent shouts: hands bound, open the gate, restore / over the threshold. Do not treat a mid-tape scream as credits.

Credits are part of PA-005

PA-005 restored missing DreadXP credits at the end. Let them run. There is still no save, so this is also your only clean exit. If credits never appear, you likely skipped a board pass or a bind-tape insert, not a secret keypad.

If the house went quiet too early

Backtrack the table: do you have bind tape + booklet + slate? Did you insert and stay inside the recording through the keys lecture? Did you collect three marks before the board? Did you do the later board pass if the first drag only darkened a room? Those four questions fix more “broken ending” reports than a second download.

Why the project is a free short instead of the cancelled *Paranormal Activity: Threshold* game: origins. Leftover questions: Discord.

Playable Archive walkthrough FAQ

Does this Playable Archive walkthrough spoil the ending?

Yes, from “opening house sweep” onward. At A Glance is safe. The last H2 names credit-adjacent lines.

Is there a chapter select?

Not on the Steam listing. No save. One sitting.

I have the crowbar and the August 8th tape. Now what?

You still need the camera to insert the Mini DV. Exact pin TBA. See the camera-insert section and camera.

When do I smash doors with the crowbar?

You do not smash the opening locked doors. Use the crowbar on pry prompts: bedroom compartment, wall cavity.

What is the tape labeled bind?

A later cassette that appears with a hand-bound booklet and a pediment slate. Insert via the camera; do not confuse it with the August 8th Mini DV.

Are there keypad codes?

None verified in the transcripts used for this page. If you found one, it is TBA until captured.

What are the three symbols called?

Official names TBA. Do not use commentary nicknames as wiki titles. See symbols.

How many endings?
